Swallow Hill Homes

The Contractors

The team at Swallow Hill Homes make a great impression from the very start. Their website includes personal profiles of all the team members – from the founders to the contractors and Nick’s Cocker Spaniel Holly – clearly radiating employee care. This is duplicated in their projects, which cater not only to homeowners and potential homeowners, but also to those affect by the ever-encroaching housing crisis. Their extensive portfolio (which can be viewed here) boasts some stunning converted properties which are then sold to help alleviate the pressure felt across the UK by a shortage of housing.

Co-founders Nick Smith and Rob Bailey planned the construction of a 3-storey building, including an extremely expansive basement, which is now used as their Head Office and hub for Swallow Hill Homes. The entire basement was waterproofed using the Wykamol Waterproofing System from start to finish and the end result is a beautiful structure set in the equally beautiful countryside near Nottingham.

The Products

A full cavity drainage system was installed, starting with an application of Hydradry Tanking Slurry to the concrete floor slab, followed by a CM20 waterproofing membrane and finished with a final concrete pour. The walls were protected using an application of CM8 membranes using the Wykamol fixing plugs with seals. Using the specified Wykamol Plugs allows the membrane to be applied puncture free, maintaining a water tight application. Perimeter drainage channels were laid to direct any ingress of water away from the structure, however a sump and pump was not necessary due to the building being built on a natural incline.

The external walls of the subterranean structure were also well protected with a Fillet Seal application at the floor/ wall junctions. Hydradry Tanking Slurry was also applied to the external wall faces followed by the Geotextile membrane. An easily accessible external land drain was installed to ensure it can be regularly maintained.

The images alone show the high quality of work you can expect from Swallow Hill Homes, but this company are doing much more for the community than helping to alleviate the housing-crisis. Each year they give away a proportion of their profits to a charity called Bridges Hull, which was set up by one of their Directors in 2007. Bridges Hull helps young people in North Bransholme, Hull by running youth clubs, trips and activities and providing one to one support. The community is a big part of Swallow Hill Homes’ vision as a company and we at Wykamol salute their efforts.
