The recent programme on Channel 4 highlighted the basement extension conducted in Hertfordshire.
This particularly project was overseen by a registered Wykamol installer Basement Structures.
The extension was planned 12 months earlier by the technical design team at Wykamol to install a dual waterproofing scheme in accordance with BS8102.
This was an incredibly challenging project and there was a podium deck waterproofing scheme which also needed implementing as well as the retaining wall.
When site work commenced and the digging started, Wykamol were on site to check on progress and to make sure that the pile walls were suitable for waterproofing.
Once the concrete walls and deck were installed Wykamol visited site and commenced checks on the waterproofing membrane installation which was a Type C Cavity drain system.
In our original proposal we had specified our Type A Crystalline Slurry Hydra Dry as the primary waterproofing coating.
For the podium deck we decided Wykamol’s flexible tanking system Hydra Flex was going to be used alongside our movement bandage system Proflex to give the podium a fully waterproof system. Due to the depth and size of the basement a robust waterproofing system was required.
Again, regular site visits were conducted throughout the build to ensure certain issues did not impact on the installation. Such as a retaining wall with, at the client’s request, a waterfall built into it. The waterproofing here was needed to protect the wall from the content flow of water, prevent penetration of the membrane and its the problems this would cause.
Overall, we are proud to be associated with such an amazing project and again it is fantastic to see our products being used on jobs across the UK.
