Ambleside lake district home gets a waterproof basement extension

Wykamol were contacted by the main contractor, regarding a new built extension being built into a hillside home in Ambleside near Windermere in the lake district. Wykamol attended site to determine a scheme to waterproof the lower area against potential water ingress from the retaining hillside wall.

First scenario was to ensure that any water entering the structure could be drained to a lower level. But the Wykamol team first wanted to put in a cement based waterproofing render Unmortar to level the walls and to act as a barrier to stem any potential moisture coming in from the hillside.

Then a Type C membrane system was to be installed and shown in the images, linked with a specialist perimeter channel system linking to a gravity drain

As this was the contractors first job using this membrane system Wykamol were on site to guide and demonstrate the procedures for installation all the way through the project. A total of four site visits were undertaken to ensure that the system could carry an insured warranty at the end of the project.

Being able to help on site and provide not only waterproof designs but also installation guidance is what sets us apart from other manufacturers.

No matter what size the project is, the team at Wykamol can help and guide contractors to suitable waterproofing applications in all below ground applications. Care must be taken though as sometimes we get called in too late after the structure is nearly complete and this can lead to complications with designs and installation.

Please contact us on 0845 400 6666 as early as possible with any projects you have, and we can attend site and look at plans and provide a BS8102 approved design on your next project.
