Wykamol Waterproofing helps historic public house stay watertight

The Carlton Arms Stepney London Trustee Properties Limited obtained permission last year to develop five flats at The Carlton, a “historically important” two-storey pub in Stepney Green that survived the Blitz.

Tower Hamlets Council approved plans to demolish the first floor of the building and add a three-storey extension and basement but it stipulated that the ground floor should be retained. The pub, which closed in May, is one of the few buildings in the area to have survived wartime bombing raids.

Waterproofing the basement areas registered installer, Advance Property Preservation approached the team at Wykamol and asked for help on a design for this basement and ground floor waterproofing scheme.

As can be seen in the photographs from the project needed a BS8102 dual waterproofing scheme creating, after careful consideration, a crystalline slurry Hydradry was applied in 2 coats by the means of a sprayer followed by our BBA approved Cavity Drain Membranes.

These Type C systems have fast become the most popular way of waterproofing these basement spaces due to the product working with the structure and allowing a water seepage to drain through a specialist channel system to a drained exit via, in this instance, a pumped drainage sump system.
